Privacy Policy
Last updated October 13, 2026
Freya is built to need as little about you as possible. Friends join a trip with just a first name, and we never sell your data or show you ads.
This Privacy Policy explains how Andy Duenas (“Freya”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the Freya iOS app, its widgets and Live Activities, trip invite links (together, the “App”), and this website (the “Site”).
Summary
- We collect only what the App needs to work: your display name, the trips you join and what you add to them.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking.
- The App does not use analytics or advertising SDKs. The Site uses Google Analytics only if you accept cookies.
- You can delete your data at any time, in the App or by emailing us.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Display name. The first name or nickname you type when you create or join a trip. You don't need an email address, phone number or password.
- Trip content. Trip names, dates, destinations, checklist items, polls and votes, notes, expenses and settle-up records that you or other trip members add.
- Photos. Photos you choose to add to a trip album. If you're on Pro and the photo contains location metadata, we use it to place the photo on the trip's photo map. You choose which photos to share; the App never reads your library on its own.
- Support messages. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message.
Information collected automatically
- Device identifier for your trips. The App creates a random identifier on your device so it can remember which trip member you are. It isn't linked to your Apple ID or your device's advertising identifier.
- Diagnostics. If you've allowed it in iOS settings, Apple may share anonymous crash reports with us. We use them only to fix bugs.
- Website analytics. On the Site only, and only after you click “Accept” in the cookie banner, Google Analytics collects pages viewed, referring site, approximate location (country/city), browser and device type. See our Cookie Policy.
Purchases
Pro subscriptions and Trip Passes are sold by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes your payment; we never see your card details. Apple tells us which purchases are active so we can unlock Pro features.
How we use information
- To run the App: syncing trips between members, showing who claimed what, splitting expenses, and building your Trip Recap.
- To provide Pro features you paid for and to restore purchases.
- To send notifications you've turned on, such as poll reminders or departure-day Live Activities.
- To answer support requests and keep the service secure, including preventing abuse.
- To understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the Site (only with your consent).
Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are: performing our contract with you (running the App), our legitimate interests (security and fixing bugs), and your consent (Site analytics and notifications). You can withdraw consent at any time.
Who can see your information
- Your trip members. Everything you add to a trip, including your display name, is visible to everyone in that trip. Anyone with a trip's invite link can join it, so only share links with people you trust.
- Service providers. We use a small number of vendors to host data and deliver the service, bound by contracts that limit their use of your information:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud hosting provider (example: Example Cloud Inc.) | Storing and syncing trip data and photos | Trip content, display names, photos |
| Apple (App Store, Push Notifications) | Purchases and notifications | Purchase status, push token |
| Cloudflare | Hosting this website | IP address, request logs |
| Google Analytics (Site only, with consent) | Website usage statistics | Pages viewed, device and browser, approximate location |
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property or safety of our users or others.
- Business transfers. If Freya is sold or merged, information may transfer to the new owner, who must honor this policy.
Retention
We keep a trip's data while the trip exists. When the trip organizer deletes a trip, its content and photos are deleted from our servers within 30 days, and from backups within 90 days. Trips with no activity for 24 months may be deleted after we notify members in the App. Support emails are kept for up to 2 years.
Deleting your data
- Leave a trip: Trip settings → Leave trip. You can choose to remove your name from items and expenses, which then show as “Former member”.
- Delete a trip (organizer): Trip settings → Delete trip. This removes it for everyone.
- Delete all your data: Settings → Delete my data. This removes your identifier, your name from every trip and the photos you uploaded.
- Or email contact@freyatripplanner.com and we'll do it for you within 30 days.
Deleting the App does not delete data on our servers. Use one of the options above. Subscriptions are managed by Apple and must be cancelled separately in your Apple ID settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the EU, UK, California and other US states, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To make a request, email contact@freyatripplanner.com. We may need to verify that the request comes from you, and we'll respond within the time the law requires (usually 30 days). You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, email contact@freyatripplanner.com and we'll delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't put sensitive information such as passwords or ID numbers in trip notes.
International transfers
We're based in the United States and our providers may process data in other countries. Where required, we rely on safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll tell you in the App or on this page before they take effect. The “Last updated” date above shows when it last changed.
